RE: eBay launched project Mercury in 2012. In 2013 eBay launched a Digital Service Efficiency portal to track in real time IT infrastructure cost, performance and environment impact. Bay goals were:
Increase transactions per kWh by 10% year over year
Reduce cost per transaction by 10% year over year
Reduce carbon per transaction by 10% year over year

EMC participated by running an internal "million dollar" POC to show how a VNX8000 with 1 PB capacity in 24RU can be the right solution for eBay's runaway OPEX in its Hadoop farm. EMC provided layer-3 failover for NAS on VNX8000. ScaleIO POC at eBay showed 10X better performance than Open Source block solution. ScaleIO and ECS running on Dell servers with Constellation will prove to be the solution that eBay can use.

The Triton video makes me think of the Porsche debate when they shifted from air to water cooled engines. Great stuff as always Chad and the disruption will continue -- let the heated (no pun intended), passionate discussions continue!
