It’s funny to me, I’m learning every day how organizations are truly organisms in a sense – alive, adapting, stretching.
In a very important sense, company “brand” is the echo of all the humans working hard and doing cool things.
Every year, we announce the EMC President’s Award – which goes to a team that did something really cool. There were four finalists this year. I know these 4 projects well, and they each reflect the new and evolving face of EMC, the technologies – but most importantly, the people, the hearts and minds that drive us every day.
Use Dropbox or Box? Want to try something even BETTER? In the words of GigaOm: “I wonder why Box, Apple, Dropbox, Microsoft and Google haven’t taken similar steps”. You can see the passion of the team: “design matters”. I use Syncplicity every day and love it. Even if you put aside the things that make it great for the enterprise (on prem options, deep AD integration and access controls, ability to integrate “sync and share” with home directories), it’s **simply a better consumer experience**.
Want to see the “behind the scenes” of one of the world’s largest cloud-scale Object Stores? How big is big? think 300,000 spindles. Think of 1,000,000,000 events daily. Think of 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 bytes of data (1 EB). This, BTW – is a pure SDS solution on commodity hardware – and while we won’t name the customer, I would wager that many of us touch it every day without even knowing. BTW – while you see Atmos in the construction phases in the video, note that in the end, it’s running on COTS hardware :-)
Want to understand the passion that drives one part of the market transition to Flash? The launch of XtremIO was incredible, and vaulted EMC into a leadership position in a new, disruptive, and highly contested marketplace. Wait until you see what we have in store next!
Are you an IT organization facing change (um – all are) who want to hear how we are tackling it? Are you tired of being “behind the scenes” and invisible? Check this out. In 2013, we started a no-bull, transparent (warts and all) dialog about the people, process, and technology journey as we chart our own path to a new “Software Defined Enterprise”? The IT Proven program moved IT from something behind the scenes to something front and center.
My hats off to these 4 teams, and all the nominees. You make me proud and passionate to be an EMCer!
