This was the “Storage Best Practices” session that Vaughn Stewart (from NetApp) and I co-presented. I want to first thank Vaughn. He and I, over the years, have done many of these “community” things – trying our best to be vendor neutral, balanced, and blunt. You tell us if we hit the mark :-)
You should see the process which we use when iterating on the content – inevitably, content has some “EMC Color” or “NetApp Color”, and then it’s amusing… Oh to be a fly on the wall :-)
It’s also worth noting that it is IMPOSSIBLE to cover everything in storage land in 60 minutes, certainly not detailed best practices – particularly when they vary so much from platform to platform, from vendor to vendor.
What Vaughn and I did was to try to capture the key things that were truly universal – and note areas of important variation. The most important piece of counsel is the first one: read the key VMware and Storage Vendor docs (and we give several examples).
