Last post on the mega-launch, I promise :-)
Heck, I’m glad to have it done… But, wow – what an event, what technology, what execution. My hats off to all those who pulled it off.
I wanted to post some funny “B-roll” gags that didn’t make the cut, and also some “behind the scenes” (including the motorcycle jump). There’s a lot of cool stuff, it would be a shame if they never saw the broad light of day…
Without further ado, here they are – read on….
The Bubba Blackwell jump was sick. in the video, you might not get a full sense of the distance we’re talking about. It was 106 feet. That’s 30 meters, or put another way – it’s about 1/3 the length of a football field!
Imagine standing in the end zone of a football field and saying “I’m going to jump 1/3 of the way to the other side”. Wow. If you want to know what that looks like, here it is:
Some pictures from the jump and the event:
We caught some flack for the "street graffiti” that was done around the bay area (a little from outsiders, vast, vast majority from people from one company that felt slighted)
Here’s a shot of one at the EMC campus in Santa Clara. For the record, these are power-washed through a stencil, completely green, and completely non-permanent. Yes, we did some at the NetApp campus. If people were really offended, personally, I suggest that yes, it was childish, but also kinda funny. You are a strong competitor – take it as a sign of respect. You can lighten up a bit (periodically you do – when YOU make videos and other things that make fun of EMC) :-)
We also produced a series of fun videos that didn’t make the event, some of them parodies, some of them straight gags.
Here are several around Greenplum and Big Data:
This one is one of my favorites :-)
Well – with that – I’m filing the Mega-Launch in the past, and looking squarely forward to getting back to solid, technical work (and executing on the 2011 plan) – 2011 is going to be an awesome year for EMC and EMC partners!
FWIW: I think that's Pleasanton, not Santa Clara based on my memory of DCTM and google maps showing EMC in Santa Clara having a square fountain.

As someone who is always looking at things with an eye towards how they will impact my Oracle applications, I have to say I'm pretty amused by the last video and Larry's waffling over the last few years.
Good job with the exadata videos.
