Here’s a quick peek into the EMC hands-on-lab at the VMware Tech Summit, where VMware SEs, PSO folks and others can play with EMC tech in the VMware context.
Some interesting things:
- it is powered by commodity servers, and the whole thing runs on EMC Iomega and EMC AX storage. Aka “how low can you go”
- In shipping, everything was dropped, mangled and mashed – but we recovered (lost only one server) – hardy kit, and more importantly highlights vSpecialists adapting on the fly :-)
- The whole lab runs on VMs – using the Celerra VSA “UBER edition – smaller, faster, geekier” – developed by Nick Weaver, EMC vSpecialist. You can get it up and running in 2 minutes start to finish, does iSCSI and NFS, vCenter plugins galore, and of course SRM support http://nickapedia.com/2010/05/01/celerra-vsa-uber-smaller-faster-easier-geekier/
- To support the many labs, including ad-hoc drop-ins the whole lab is a “cloud” model – everything is deployed from a baseline package and - basically a “baby” of what’s shown in the VMware HoL, just not VMware-centric, but rather VMware+EMC centric.
- Yes, the vSpecialist team get those cool shirts :-) I’m sporting one right now :-)
- Yes, it is fun, we have tunes and beers in the back (along with Redbulls to power the vSpecialist team).
- Yes, that is something unreleased on the last frame of the video :-)
If you’re at the Hilton at the VMware Tech Summit – you can come on by – it’s in Tower 3, 6th floor, Sutter room.
Here’s me presenting at VMware Tech Summit during the EMC Keynote – also proudly sporting the vSpecialist VMware/Cisco/EMC duds :-) Hope my VMware brothers and sisters enjoyed the session. EMC TCs, see you next week at EMC World, which is going to ROCK the world.
I like the shirts, you can now join a bowling league. :-) Seriously nice work and exciting stuff!
