Spent yesterday with my colleagues at Cisco and VMware on the Cisco campus – working through the engineering, performance and solution work plans as part of the VCE (see partner Exchange videos – VCE = VMware/Cisco/EMC). Thought it would be fun to post some “in the datacenter” videos.
Here are the systems that do the VMmark testing I mentioned here – you can see they are setup with plenty of headroom for lots of work.
Here are the systems that are doing all sorts of other work – more to come later.
Forgive the shaky cam.
Played with the UCS manager myself – damn – it’s very swank. In talking with the Cisco team, I really mentioned that they should post a Camtasia video of it in action – it’s the unheralded part of the UCS story. Sure, chassis management is OK with a small number of chassis, but not at scale, and not on unifed transport models (with virtualized interfaces).
It’s funny how VMware has host profiles, Cisco has their service profiles, and v-Max has auto-provisioning groups (demo here) and storage templates. The pattern – we’re all trying to make scalable, simple datacenters (which as much about operational process as wiring/hardware scaling) easier – which enables rapid provisioning models designed for virtualization (i.e. make it fast and simple to add physical resources, to support growing virtual requirements).
I love my CX4, just racked 2 more DAE's today myself :)
