Today Cisco has announced a new system – the Unified Compute System.
We’ve been dancing around this for a while, and remember signing the NDA and getting the briefing, and starting work many, many moons ago. It hasn’t been a coincidence that for the last two VMworlds – we’ve been co-presenting our common VMware/Cisco/EMC vision, and what we’re doing around it.
While VMware and EMC have big things coming in the coming months, and to each of us, these sort of things are huge – the obvious difference here is that this represents a shake-up of the core IT “stack”.
With the upcoming EMC world, RSA conferences, and VMworld in August, our goal is to keep showing more, and more – there’s armies working on this behind the scenes.
Cisco’s new system is a great design, will evolve – and the most important thing to me? It reflects our common vision. It’s designed for the 100% Virtual Datacenter. It’s designed for the Private Cloud. It is a reflection of thinking as the infrastructure needing to evolve for a new model – driven by the higher level VM (or more accurately vApp) policy as the configuration engine.
Exciting times! vPod v2.0 coming soon :-)
