For the past two weeks, I've been in Europe and the Middle East - VMworld in Barcelona, and then Paris, Frankfurt, Tel Aviv, Herzelia, and closing in London before heading back to the Americas. Lots of customer time. My job involves a lot of sacrifices re: family - but I'm not complaining! I'm very fortunate to be able to be exposed to so many different languages, cultures and customers.
As I travel, it's interesting to me how much we differ - but also how much we share. The echoes of customer challenges around the world are very similar, and cross market segments. Everyone needs to:
- Become more agile, needs to get more efficient - which is all about cloud, automation and "software defined".
- Adapt to the new social, mobile, big data world - and building new apps for that new world.
VMworld Europe was a milestone marker like VMworld San Francisco. VMware always keeps some secrets in store for the October VMworld - and this one was no different! VMware and EMC are focused on the first bullet in the list above, and Pivotal is focused on the 2nd.
Lots of new technology at VMworld, lots of fascinating learning from all the customers, and hey - Openstack updates too! Read on past the break for an update!
