One thing I get a kick out of is walking around VMworld the night before it really gets going – in this case, in 2011 in Vegas, it was on Sunday. This time is always “pregnant with opportunity” – things are invariably going sideways, some are falling into place, and everyone is scrambling. Just like any big event – there is a sense of the “quiet before the storm”.
Here’s the main “hang out area” with people milling around – this was a bit sketchy to me at first. I mean bushes? basketball courts? Chess areas? But – in the end, I think it worked out well.
Here’s me walking around the EMC booth as it is assembled, including the interactive lab. You can see the vSpecialists working hard, and working late to make sure everything is ready to go, ready to rumble.
And here’s the VCE booth getting setup. This was the first year where VCE marketing clearly was “grown up”. Remember that VCE is a new company, a startup in effect. Yes, it is a joint venture of the parents, but operating on their own means that they need to pull a lot together to pull off a major event like this. Their booth, their supersession, their announcement were much more “pulled together” than they were in years’ past. Just my 2 cents.
