OK – with VMworld 2011 rapidly approaching (10 business days left!) I’m doing a “My Top 10” list of things to do, see, participate in, vote on, win prizes, etc… Each day, I’ll do the next in the “top 10 list”.
Today – #9 – a neat way to influence things a little…
While 99% of the stuff going on at a conference like VMworld has months of planning – everyone has various ways to influence/interact. For example – early on, customers and the public at large can vote on sessions (voting was brutally harsh this year). Another example – most of the sessions we’re doing involve customers – customers who are part of the process obviously influence what is said and done.
Usually – at this late stage – there is very little anyone can do to affect outcomes – everyone is “heads down” on pulling everything over the line.
There is one interesting exception I’m aware of :-)
We’ve done a popular session in the past where a series of bloggers/people in the community take open questions on a panel. This year, that session is VSP1425, and the panel consists of notables like Duncan Epping, Scott Lowe, Frank Denneman and less notables like myself. The moderator is Rick Scherer. All are authors, bloggers, and active in the community and with customers (at least as much as I can :-)
We’ve already agreed that Rick will need to muzzle me – I tend to give long verbose answers (as readers of my blog can ascertain :-) - which adds another element of fun.
So – how can you influence what happens? You are in control of the questions. We’re taking questions in advance online, and if you’re in the room, you’ll have access to the mike.
So – without further ado – BE ACTIVE and influence what happens – submit your question – whatever it may be! .
