When we start next week, we’re diving back into the Top 5 list which will have technical goodies and more “non-formal” activities I would highly recommend.
But – since it’s friday, let’s exit this week with something fun… THE PARTIES :-)
Now – you have a choice of evening entertainment at VMworld, I respect that. And, I’m sure everyone has their opinion on what’s the best set of choices. Here’s MY list – and I think this represents an EPIC evening calendar to top off every day (which will be filled with nerd glory)…
My personal rules are to: “pace myself” (HA) and be powered by redbull all week. Often in the evenings you can find me at the craps tables playing as well, and love to play with my friends. While a VMworld vet (including delivering all the technical sessions) I’m always just about ready to collapse at the end of the week, but of course, it’s a marathon (you should see my daytime calendar!!!)
Read on for more!
First of all – open off the festivities on Sunday before VMworld actually kicks off, there’s no substitute for the #vmunderground party. Only bummer is that it conflicts with the v0dgeball match – both start at 7pm. Bummer indeed. It’s also looking like it’s full – which is always the sign of something good :-) You can click on the pic below to get to their site.
Next up is the VMworld reception. This is always a great warm up for the first night - Monday, August 29 5:00pm – 7:30pm.
Right after the warm-up, I’d recommend checking out the #CXIParty – I’m going to. It’s from 8:30 until 4:30am. It’s being held at the cosmopolitan this year – click on the pic below to get to registration.
This is going to sound arrogant, but I think this is THE party to go to on Tuesday night. Unfortunately, it’s invite only. (it does sound arrogant). Every year, Tuesday tends to be “partner party night”, and everyone thinks theirs is the one to go to. The EMC party has built a rep over the last few years as being the best, and I refuse to look in the rear-view mirror. My marching orders to the marketing team was “make it EPIC”. With the market glum overall, we’re being austere for internal meetings/meals – but the pedal is fully to the metal when it comes to customers.
You do not want to know what the budget was for this – and it came out of my budget :-)
It is invite only, and EMC sales teams have invites to hand out. We’re already WAY past our limit, and approaching the fire limit for the location, but there will be some passes there on the off chance there’s openings. PLEASE DON’T ASSUME SO. Talk to your EMC sales teams.
It’s being held at the Surrender Night Club @ the Wynn on Tuesday starting at 7:30. It has an open bar, passed appetizers, entertainment, and select customers and partners will be winning the Journey Awards for 2011.
And, of course – this leads us to the crème-de-la-crème, the piece-de-resistance (and any other overused french saying you can think of), the VMworld party on Wednesday night, starting at 7:00pm. You may not be a Killers fan (I am), but trust me, they are awesome in concert, and a Vegas band in Vegas – well – there’s nothing like it.
Here’s hoping to see YOU at VMworld 2011 and celebrate together!

Good Afternoon! Any chance you can specify WHO to talk to at EMC about invites for the Tuesday party at Wynn? I've been reaching out for weeks to folks from Corporate and local regional teams and no one seems to know who to talk to about this. Thanks!
