Crazy day today.
- Recorded video to be used next week for VMware (redacted) Launch.
- Finished up the first phase of 2012 planning (tech, budgets, finance, etc) – this is used on my team meetings on Sat/Sun to formally kick off the 2012 planning window internally. Oh to be a competitor fly on the wall on that pair of meetings. Would be great, but also TERRIFYING.
- Built a demo around something that won’t be real for several years (but useful to show where we are going) – @#$in’ awesome. People who know what I’m talking about – you know who you are – you know I’m not kidding.
- Spent 2hrs with Pat Gelsinger doing a deep 401 level dive in VASA, VAAI (vSphere 4.1 and 5), VSI, our array vCenter integration – I have to say, I have a lot of respect for the man. As the COO of EMC, the fact he WANTS to go deep on this stuff is quite inspiring, frankly.
- Met with 2 customers.
- Did a podcast with John Troyer. I’m not kidding in the bit I mentioned in there. SUP1006 and SPO3977 are going to contain stuff that will … blow… people’s… minds….
Ok – back to the “top 10 list”.
Top 4 = “Meet ups”. During today’s podcast with John Troyer from VMware, Edward Haletky (good dude in his own right) when asked for “VMworld survival tips” mentioned to “stop, sit with a stranger and say hello to a stranger” (paraphrasing). he’s right. We’re so insular sometimes, it’s great to use these conferences to make new friends, expand our networks – like Ed said (again paraphrasing from memory): “you never know – you might be having a challenge that they share, and solve it together”. VMworld is filled with 20,000+ people LIKE YOU. They are on the journey, right beside you.
I find that the social media “meet ups"/”tweet ups” are a great forum to make connections (but hey, if you see me, no matter what the context, SAY HELLO. I’m very friendly, and non-threatening :-) The meetups/tweetups tend to be a great way to make connections with people you already know virtually.
