Folks – I did a post on this here, but also presented a video with a voice-over on how this works at VMworld, and wanted to share it.
THIS AFFECTS ALL ARRAYS WHERE MRU IS/CAN BE USED (including the EMC CLARiiON, EVA, NetApp, IBM DS etc….) – if you’re using the MRU policy, and are using ESX 3.x, you really need to understand this.
(BTW, this is fixed in vSphere, and the workaround is easy in ESX 3.5)

Actually, with MRU, if you define from the CLI the preferred path for a LUN, it will actually hold the configuration settings after the reboot; just try it!
